First Introductions-Skype

On Feb. 24, 2010 Mrs. Saloka's class from Jefferson Forest High School and Mrs. Jonas' class from Staunton River High School got the chance to meet some of their peers from Kenya, Africa.  Both classes got their turn at Skyping a group of 9th graders at the Mercy Care Center.  What an awesome experience theses students had in class that day!

You did a great job as well as everyone involved here. I was in Kenya when it took place and the students there were very responsive and wanted to know when they could do it again. What technology has to wonderful and I am proud that the teachers and students in Bedford County are moving ahead with this opportunity.

We are listening to Voices of Africa by the Mbube & Sotho A Capella Choirs while we finish working on the book bags. John is cutting apart some strips of paper with "sayings" that were selected for their inspiration. Amanda and Chelsey are sewing on the machine. Matt is doing "quality control" and adding decoration. Taylor is absent today. Bethany Butcher will visit us within the next few days to share pictures and food with us. We have begun collecting shoes. Every day we are surprised at who drops off a contribution. Sometimes a teacher will bring shoes from their children. Sometimes a student will bring a pair. Today a student brought a bag with 5 pairs. One of our guidance counselors bought pairs of new shoes for us to send. We hope all is well with each of you. Ms. Jonas
